We believe that members of local communities better understand their own needs and the characteristics of their unique situations; therefore, ILI facilitates training and works diligently to support community members to work together with other Latinos in their own communities.
Our main Tobacco Prevention and Education focus areas are as follows:
- Protecting Hoosiers from exposure to Secondhand Smoke
- Reducing Youth Initiation and Access to Tobacco
- Promoting and Using Cessation Resources
Community Health Centers Outreach Program
The Indiana Latino Institute, Inc. (ILI) is committed to improving the health of Indiana Latinos through the Community Health Centers Outreach Program. ILI demonstrates our commitment to community outreach by providing a visible presence at local health centers that serve the Latino population in Marion County. Programming is designed to identify Latino patients who smoke and then provide these individuals with all the resources available to assist them with their addiction.
The program is further enhanced through ILI’s smoking cessation counseling provided through the Indiana Tobacco Quitline: 1-800-Quit-Now.
Tobacco Prevention and Education
This innovative Program addresses the dangers of tobacco and second-hand smoke that affect all Latino women of childbearing age and also Latino women who are pregnant. Programming specifically educates Latinas about the following core concepts:

- Cessation services
- How to provide referrals for women who want to quit smoking
